Acne Treatment - What is Exfoliating?
While exfoliating your skin can be one of the best acne treatment methods, it works even better when used with other acne treatment products!
You exfoliate your skin by using a slightly abrasive (but not harmful) product which rubs against your skin, pulling away old dead layers of skin and therefore cleaning the area. Think of it like peeling an onion: you peel away the rough dirty layer to get at the clean and smooth layer.
So it sounds pretty simple, but there are actually a couple of different types of exfoliating products available:
The most common is an abrasive scrubbing brush, which as I mentioned earlier is a slightly abrasive brush that you scrub your pimple infected area with. Be careful not to press too hard when scrubbing; the goal is to remove the dead layers of skin, and they come off pretty easily.
Other popular products are the chemical ones which help pull the top (old-dead) layers of your skin off. Note that you won’t see this happening, or even feel it, but that is what they do.
The reason you would want to exfoliate your skin is these old (dead) cells can block up your live skin pores and become a breeding ground for bacteria that cause acne.
Now be aware that sometimes exfoliating your skin can cause a visible flaking of your skin. This is pretty normal and is nothing to get concerned with in most cases. This can be cleared up using some non-oil based skin moisturizers.
