While exfoliating your skin can be one of the best acne treatment methods, it works even better when used with other acne treatment products!
You exfoliate your skin by using a slightly abrasive (but not harmful) product which rubs against your skin, pulling away old dead layers of skin and therefore cleaning the area. Think of it like peeling an onion: you peel away the rough dirty layer to get at the clean and smooth layer.
So it sounds pretty simple, but there are actually a couple of different types of exfoliating products available:
The most common is an abrasive scrubbing brush, which as I mentioned earlier is a slightly abrasive brush that you scrub your pimple infected area with. Be careful not to press too hard when scrubbing; the goal is to remove the dead layers of skin, and they come off pretty easily.
Other popular products are the chemical ones which help pull the top (old-dead) layers of your skin off. Note that you won’t see this happening, or even feel it, but that is what they do.
The reason you would want to exfoliate your skin is these old (dead) cells can block up your live skin pores and become a breeding ground for bacteria that cause acne.
Now be aware that sometimes exfoliating your skin can cause a visible flaking of your skin. This is pretty normal and is nothing to get concerned with in most cases. This can be cleared up using some non-oil based skin moisturizers.

You know it really all depends on the stage your pimple’s (acne) are at. I know, it’s pretty easy for us to be embarrassed, and even hate the way we look, when we’re covered in zits (acne), right! But before rushing off to the doctor please ensure you’ve done everything you can including…
- Insuring that your face (and wherever else the pimples are) is being cleaned regularily. Those ugly zits can be caused from oil on your skin getting caught in your pores, and if you don’t clean your face regularily it just makes it soo much easier for the bateria to form. You may want to invest in some of the popular acne cleansing products to help with this as well.
- These cleansing and exfoliating products are designed to pull the oils and bacteria out of your skin. Some of the popular ones have peroxide and/or achohol which helps to dry up the oils and kill of the acne causing bacteria.
- After those things, you could review your diet. Although the food we eat isn’t a major factor in the oils that our bodies produce, your diet has a huge impact on your body’s ability to fight off infections and heal itself. This is why a well balanced diet including nutritional supplements is soo important these days.
- Another potential cause of acne is actually stress! You body could react to stress by over-producing hormones that trigger oil production in your skin.
Now after you have considered each of these and your pimples are still not going away, or not going away quickly enough, then you should contact your doctor. And you will likely be referred to a special skin doctor called a dermatologist, who will be able to get to the root of your acne problem.
